Methodology
How Nuanyue selects, categorizes and reviews Mac software listings, and how we keep information accurate over time.
How We Select Apps
An app qualifies for the Nuanyue directory when it:
- runs on macOS and is available to users today;
- solves a real, identifiable problem;
- comes from a traceable developer with an official website or public repository;
- is not deceptive, harmful or abandoned.
Inclusion is not an endorsement, and developers cannot pay to be listed.
How We Categorize Software
Each app is assigned to one or more categories based on its primary purpose — what a user would use it for, not how it is marketed. Apps with multiple purposes may appear in several categories.
How Information Is Verified
For every listing we record the official website and, where available, the Mac App Store page and source repository. Pricing and platform details are checked against the developer’s official pages. Each listing shows a “Last reviewed” date so you can judge its freshness yourself.
How Updates Are Reviewed
Listings are reviewed when an app changes significantly, when readers report outdated information, and during periodic category reviews. Apps that are discontinued or become unavailable are removed or marked accordingly.
How Sponsored Content Is Handled
Products from the Nuanyue ecosystem — such as Neatwise — are identified as Nuanyue products wherever they appear. They follow the same listing format and review process as third-party software. We do not publish paid placements that are not clearly labeled.
