Mac software roundup: September 2026

About this video
Four apps in under seven minutes, and the first one takes more than half the runtime. Mole is a native maintenance tool — cleanup, app management, disk analysis and system monitoring — and the video works through it screen by screen. Atoll turns the notch into a Dynamic Island-style hub. DeskMinder and Typeless follow, with no page on this site. Mole and Atoll do have pages, so they are the two linked below; the other two are named because the video names them.
Mole is the reason to watch this one. It runs from 0:20 to roughly 2:30 — more than half the video — and the sequence is a single scan followed by the results: a treemap of the disk, a list of what can be removed, and a run that reports how much was freed. The same window then moves on to installed applications and a live system monitor, which is the part that distinguishes it from a cleaner that only deletes caches.
Atoll gets about a minute, from 2:36. It is a notch utility, and the video shows the notch area filled with panels — media controls, live activities and small utilities — which is the Dynamic Island pattern applied to a Mac. The download page shown on screen is a GitHub repository.
DeskMinder and Typeless close the video. DeskMinder puts countdowns and reminders on the desktop itself; Typeless is voice input that produces finished text rather than a transcript, and the video spends its last two minutes on the difference between what it writes and what a literal dictation would produce.
Two of the four have pages here — Mole and Atoll. DeskMinder and Typeless do not, so this page makes no claim about their pricing or requirements. Note also that Typeless is not the same product as OpenTypeless, which is a separate open-source project with its own page.
What it covers
- That Mole's cleanup is driven from a single scan, then shown as a treemap of what is using space
- That the same window also covers app management and system monitoring, so it is one tool rather than three
- That Atoll's own repository describes it as a Dynamic Island for macOS, and the video demonstrates the notch-area panels
- That the two apps with the longest segments are Mole and Typeless, which is also where the video's detail is
Chapters
No chapter list is published with this video. Each time marks where an app's segment begins, read from the video itself.
